On September 6th this year hurricane Irma (the strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic basin) raked a swath of death & destruction through many Caribbean Islands making some uninhabitable and turning others into pure chaos. The US and British Virgins were hit incredibly hard destroying homes and displacing thousands. Two weeks later Maria, another category 5 set her sights on us again hitting sister islands of Puerto Rico & St Croix the hardest, which was unfortunate as they were the most instrumental in Irma relief and evacuations up to that point. Nearly three months later many people are still homeless or displaced and living without power. The people who remain in the islands are repairing and rebuilding but it is going to take quite some time. Visitors flock to the Virgin Islands because of the pristine white sand beaches, crystal blue water, balmy trade winds & of course the sailing and the rum but the real gem of the Caribbean are the people. I have lived in the Virgin Islands my whole adult life and I love the people of the Caribbean, they have taught me some of the most beautiful ways to be human. Caribbean people are incredibly resilient and will keep going strong rebuilding their islands. This definitely isn't their first rodeo but it was a one-two punch in the gut. As I watch my island families struggling I realize that if I had stayed living in the Virgin Islands I would have lost everything. The house I used to live in was blown to bits and my store was eviscerated. Hopefully we can do our little bit to give back.Gina Feddersen of Isola Bella designs rode out both Irma & Maria with her family at home in St Thomas. She recently approached me about creating hurricane relief bikinis with her beautiful island watercolor paintings so I printed her paintings onto recycled eco fabric and whipped out some suits. Since then I have also added beach towels to our repertoire. St John and Virgin Island bikinis & towels are available in in blue and coral hues. The suits are reversible and you can choose over ten colors to reverse to. If you cannot find the style or color you would most want no worries, I am making everything custom order so e-mail me or write in your preference at check out. You can find all of our hurricane relief bikinis and towels here.
Proceeds will go to the hurricane relief fund of The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands who have a long standing history of enhancing the educational, physical, social, cultural and environmental well-being of the children, youth, and families of the Virgin Islands.
Thank you so much! Virgin Islands We LOVE you!
